The Motorcycle Club

Two and half weeks ago when I was at the conversation club meeting at the The Fenix, which is right near Iglesia del Expiatorio. I heard a loud rumble and looked out across the courtyard and saw about 30 motorcycles leaving the plaza. I thought is was pretty cool at the time.

The next week when I went to conversation club I parked my bike where I had seen all the other bikes, I assumed it must be the motorcycle parking area. When I came out of the Fenix that night I was surprised to see all the bikers parked around my bike. I thought "Shit, I am gonna get my ass kicked..." I made pleasantries as I approached. None of the guys or their girlfriends spoke english so I was doing my best with my spanish. The were all wearing jackets and vests with a patch of there logo and name of the group on the back, "Buitres". There was a little bit of standoffishness and a little intimidation but for the most part it was all OK.

On my way to conversation group this last thursday I saw them parked in the square. This time I rode over to them got off my bike and asked if I could ride with them tonight. I quickly found out that a guy named Angel was the main guy and he said it was OK. He informed me that they had an event that night and I could ride if I wanted. This turned out to be one of the coolest nights ever.

We rode to a local T.V. station that was having a big party for a T.V. show. About five other motorcycle clubs showed up and a group of old classic cars. We parked a few blocks from the station, then they staggered the classic cars with the motorcycles, one car then about 16 bikes, 1 car 16 bikes etc... We then got a police escort to the station, as we pulled up, a classic car would stop at the red carpet and the guests of honor would get out. I was right behind one of the cars, could not believe I was sitting here on my bike in Mexico, at a red carpet with T.V. cameras, bright lights, a band playing and mobs of people.

After that our club (their club that I was riding with) rounded up and we left to ride around the city for a bit. 30 bikes roaring through Guadalajara. Many of the guys had their girlfriends on the back, as did Angel. He rode in front and instructed me to ride next to him. As we rode, his girlfriend who I guess is about 26 was giving the hand signals that would then be relayed back through the ranks. She looked so stunning on the back of his bike. She wore a dark purple and black dress/skirt with fishnets, biker boots, a black leather vest with the Buitres patch on the back and her long black hair trailing behind her. A fist in the air meant we were gonna stop, two fingers meant ride 2 abreast, one finger pointing at heaven meant single file.

We rode to their bar where we got drinks and a band played. At the bar the guys were being guys, they would dog pile each other, wrestle and throw friendly punches ,then someone would dive off of the bar or a table onto the the other guys. I have been around rough and tumble, but this was more than I have seen in a long time.

I did my best with the language and I feel it went OK. Angel invited me to come back next week to ride, I think I will do.

Since I did not take my camera, the pictures included are ones I took from their facebook.
